Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State men’s basketball team steam rolled the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets by 22 points, 110-88, on Saturday afternoon in front of a nice crowd at the Jesse R. Lilly Gymnasium.
West Virginia State would jump out to an eight point lead, 10-2, in the first half. However GSC would tie it up at 21 all at the 12:39 mark of the first half. Then GSC would take their first lead on their next possession, 24-21, after that GSC never looked back as they cruised to a 22 point victory over the Yellow Jackets, 110-88.
Both teams had 14 turnovers in the game however GSC converted them into 25 points while the Yellow Jackets only converted them into 17 points.
GSC also had 19 second chance points to West Virginia State’s 10 points. The Pioneers also held a big advantage in the rebounding battle as they out rebounded West Virginia State 44 to 29.
GSC had six players score in double figures with Kevin Gray leading the way with 20 points as he connected on six three-pointers in the game.
Lamont Cole scored 17 points for the Pioneers while Donte Morales scored 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
Jordan McCloud also scored a career high with 16 points in the victory. Reggie Williams chipped in with 15 points and handed out a game high 5 assists.
And Lamar Mallory finished with a double double as he scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
West Virginia State was led by Dominic Phillips as he scored a game high 26 points.
The Pioneers return to action Monday, January 6th when they travel to take on the University of Charleston. Game time is set for 7:30pm.
