Charleston, W.Va. – The GSC men’s basketball squad suffered a tough MEC conference road loss to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles, 70-77.
Charleston took a nine point lead after one half of play, 34-43.
In the second half GSC would cut into UC’s lead at the 16:50 mark after a Lamont Cole three-pointer making it, 43-46.
But it wouldn’t be enough as the Pioneers would fall on the road to UC by seven, 70-77.
GSC shot 43 percent from the floor while UC shot 45 percent from the floor. UC also won the rebounding battle as they out rebounded GSC 38 to 34.
GSC had four players score in double figures with Lamar Mallory leading the way with 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Lamont Cole scored 17 points and pulled down 6 rebounds while Donte Morales scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Also for the Pioneers Jordan McCloud came off the bench to score 12 points.
Xavier Humphrey scored 22 points for Charleston while Tino diTrapano chipped in with 13 points.
The Pioneers return to action Thursday, January 9th when they travel to Urbana. Game time is set for 7:30pm.
