Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer men’s basketball team hung on for a huge home victory over the Shepherd University Rams, 96-92.
GSC’s Lamont Cole would hit two huge free throws with 11 seconds left to play in the game as the Pioneers would defeat the Rams.
In the first half of play GSC would head into halftime down by three points as the Rams took a 45-48 lead.
In the second half of play both teams would go back and fourth, however GSC would build an eight point lead with only 2:10 left to play in the game. The Rams would come right back cut the lead to two points, 92-90, with 24 seconds left.
But that’s as close as the Rams would get as GSC would hit its free throws to seal the victory.
The Pioneers bench would outscore the Rams bench 21 to 18.
GSC also won the rebounding battle by five as they pulled down 36 rebounds while the Rams pulled down 31 rebounds.
The Pioneers had five players score in double figures with Donte Morales leading the way with 20 points. Kevin Gray scored 19 point on the night while freshman Brett Morris scored a career high 17 points off the bench.
Lamont Cole and Jordan McCloud both finished with 15 points. McCloud also pulled down 16 rebounds as he finished the night with a double double.
Reggie Williams dished out a team high 4 assists.
Morgan McDonald scored a game high 23 points for Shepherd while Brantley Osborne finished with 17 points.
The Pioneers returns to the court Monday, February 3rd when the travel to Fairmont State. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
