Institute, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers fell on the road to West Virginia State University Thursday evening by final score of, 76-78.
The Pioneers would find their selves down by 13 points to West Virginia State, 21-34, with only 5:00 minutes until halftime. But GSC would pull with 10 points, 34-44 as they headed into the second half of play.
GSC would continue to fight and would cut West Virginia State’s lead to two points, 72-74, with only 1:58 left to play. The Pioneers would then tie it up at 75 all with only 1:00 left in the game.
However West Virginia State would then take a two point lead 78-76, but GSC would have one last possession but could not connect as they turned it over and fell in a hard fought game to the Yellow Jackets, 76-78.
The Pioneers were out-rebounded by the Yellow Jackets 26 to 47. West Virginia State also scored 19 second chance points while GSC only scored 7 second chance points.
Donte Morales scored 18 points for the Pioneers. He also finished with the night with 3 blocks. Reggie Williams scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while Kevin Gray and Lamont Cole both scored 15 points on the night.
West Virginia State was led by Steve Wing as he scored 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
The Pioneers return to the court this Saturday, February 8th when the University of Charleston comes to Glenville. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
