Fairmont, W.Va. – The Glenville State men’s basketball squad hung on for a huge road victory as they defeated Fairmont State by one, 76-75.
In the first half of play the Pioneers would struggle as they would head into halftime down by six, 21-27.
In the second half it would be a different story as the Pioneers would come out hot. GSC would take their first lead of the game at the 10:42 mark of the second half as Reggie Williams hit a layup putting the Pioneers up, 47-46.
Both teams would go back and fourth, however GSC would take a seven point lead, 73-66, with only 24 seconds left to play.
However the Falcons would hit several three’s to keep them in the game but it wouldn’t be enough as GSC would hold on to a one point victory, 76-75, as Fairmont would hit a three as the time expired.
The Pioneers forced 24 turnovers and converted them into 21 points. GSC also outscored the Falcons in the paint 34 to 20.
Kevin Gray scored a game high 19 points while Donte Morales and Lamar Mallory both scored 15 points. Mallory also pulled down 12 rebounds as he finished with a double double, after coming back from knee surgery.
Brett Morris also had a great game off the bench as he scored 13 points as he went 8 for 10 from the free throw line.
Reggie Williams finished with 10 points and had 4 assists.
Fairmont was led by Chase Morgan as he scored 18 points.
The Pioneers return home on Thursday, February 13th when Urbana comes calling, game time is set for 7:30 pm.
