#9 Lady Pioneers Fall in Overtime

Kenyona Simmons was the only Lady Pioneers to score in double figures as she scored 24 points in the overtime loss to Wheeling Jesuit

Wheeling, W.Va. – The #9 Glenville State Lady Pioneers basketball team suffered a tough road loss in overtime to MEC foe Wheeling Jesuit on Thursday night, 74-77.

The Lady Pioneers would trail as by many as 12 points in the first half as Wheeling Jesuit took a 31-25 lead at halftime.

In the second half GSC would continue to fight to get back in the game and at the 6:11 mark of the second half GSC would take a four point lead, 56-52.

But Wheeling Jesuit would come back and retake the lead 61-58 with only 41 second left to play. However Ginny Mills would come down and tie it at 61 all as she hit a huge three-pointer which sent the game into overtime.

In overtime GSC would take a four point lead, 69-65, with 2:48 to go, but it wouldn’t be enough as Wheeling Jesuit would then go on a six point run as they would go onto beat the Lady Pioneers by three, 77-74.

GSC forced Wheeling Jesuit into 18 turnovers but only converted them into 11 points. Wheeling Jesuit would win the rebounding battle as they out-rebounded the Lady Pioneers by two, 51-49.

The Lady Pioneers also had a terrible night shooting the ball as they only shot 30 percent from the floor and 18 percent from behind the three-point line, while Wheeling Jesuit shot 47 percent from the floor and 60 percent from behind the three-point line.

GSC only hit six three-points in the game.

Kenyona Simmons was the only Lady Pioneer to score in double figures as she scored 24 points. Simmons also grabbed 9 rebounds. Ginny Mills finished the night with 9 points while Tasia Bristow scored 8 points.

Aesha Peters grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 7 points while Jessica Parsons dished out 3 assists and scored 5 points.

Wheeling Jesuit was led by Jaila Bryant as she scored 26 points. Breanna Butler scored 21 points while Taneka Lewis finished the night with 13 points.

The Lady Pioneers are now 23-3 (18-2) they return to the court this Saturday, February 22nd when West Liberty travels to the Ville, it is also Senior Day as we honor all of the Lady Pioneer seniors. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
