Buckhannon, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer men’s basketball team defeated West Virginia Wesleyan by 20 points, 78-58, in the last regular season game of the year.
The Pioneers would fall behind 5-0 early in the first half but after that GSC would come back strong and control the rest of the way as they would take a, 34-21 lead at halftime.
In the second half it was all GSC as they would roll to a 20 point road victory.
The Pioneers defense played great today as they forced Wesleyan into 15 turnovers while GSC only turned it over 10 times. The Pioneers also had 10 steals in the game.
The Pioneers would win the rebounding battle as they out-rebounded Wesleyan 37 to 33.
GSC also had a great day shooting the ball as they shot 49 percent from the floor and 39 percent from behind the three-point line, while West Virginia Wesleyan shot 38 percent from the floor and 25 percent from behind the three-point line.
GSC was led by senior Lamar Mallory as he scored a game high 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Donte Morales finished the day with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Kevin Gray also scored in double figures as he scored 14 points and had 4 steals, while Brett Morris scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
West Virginia Wesleyan was led by Tanner McGrew as he finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Chris Drewberry scored 14 points for the Bobcats.
With the win the Pioneers finish the season 17-9 (14-8), they will receive a first round bye in the MEC Conference Tournament as they are the number three seed. Their next game will be on Friday, March 7th in Charleston at the Civic Center at 2:15 pm as they will play the winner of the Shepherd and Concord game.
