Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State College Lady Pioneers basketball team defeated the Wheelilng Jesuit Cardinals 75-53 in the MEC Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
GSC would jump out to an 8-0 lead over Wheeling Jesuit early in the first half with 16 minutes left to play till halftime.But the Cardinals would come back and make it a six point game at the 9:37 minute mark as GSC still led 16-10.
Then late in the first half the Lady Pioneers and the Cardinals would go back and fourth and trade several baskets, however GSC still held a eight point advantage, 22-14, with under 5:00 minutes left till half.
GSC would then go on a 5 to 2 run as Taisa Bristow hit the first three-pointer of the game for either team putting the Lady Pioneers up 27-16 with 2:28 remaining.
But again the Cardinals would go on a run of their own as Wheeling Jesuit would go on a 10 to 9 run to end the half. However GSC would still lead by six, 31-24, at intermission.
The Lady Pioneers would start the second half on a 6-3 run as GSC took a, 37-27 lead with 17:00 minutes left to play.
Then GSC would go on a huge run as they outscored Wheeling Jesuit 25 to 12 with 8:28 left to play in the game as the Lady Pioneers took a 56-36 lead.
After that run it would be all GSC as they would go on to pick up an easy win over Wheeling Jesuit, 75-53, as they advance to the MEC Conference Tournament semifinals on Saturday.
The Lady Pioneers defense caused Wheeling Jesuit to turn it over 22 times while GSC only committed 7 their selves.
Leading the way for the Lady Pioneers was Ginny Mills as she scored a game high 19 points. Tasia Bristow was the only other Lady Pioneer to score in double figures as she finished with 15 points, 4 assists, and 6 steals.
Kenyell Goodson chipped in with 8 points while Kenyona Simmons finished with 7 points.
Aesha Peters grabbed 6 rebounds and had 5 blocks in the win. Jessica Parsons dished out a team high 5 assists.
Wheeling Jesuit was led by Taneka Lewis as she scored 14 points.
With the win the Lady Pioneers advance into the semifinals of the MEC Conference Tournament presented by Go-Mart. They will play the winner of the Fairmont State/West Virginia State game on Saturday, March 8th at 2:15 pm.
