Glenville, W.Va. – Bloomsburg got out to a quick start and held off Glenville State in the second half to defeat the Lady Pioneers, 91-78, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night.
Glenville State, the Mountain East Conference regular season and tournament champion, finishes its season with a record of 29-4. Bloomsburg (26-4) advances to take on Edinboro for the Atlantic Region title on Monday night.
Catharine Noack, the PSAC East Player of the Year, led the way with 27 points. She was 7-of-11 from behind the arc. As a team, the Huskies were 11-of-19 from behind the three-point line and shot 56 percent from the field for the game. Jocelyn Ford added 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Bloomsburg also out-rebounded Glenville State 44-31.
The Lady Pioneers were led by Kenyona Simmons’ 17 points. Ginny Mills had 13 points before fouling out, and Tiffani Huffman chipped in 13 points.
Bloomsburg got ahead of Glenville State early, and continued to build its lead to 46-25 at halftime. The Pioneers came on strong in the second half and chipped away at the Huskies’ lead getting as close as 70-63 with still 7:11 to play. Noack drilled a three on Bloomsburg’s next possession that sparked 9-2 run that essentially put the game out of reach.
