Glenville, WV - Glenville State College athletic officials and Head Football coach David Hutchison have released the schedule for the 2014 football season. The 11 game schedule includes five home games and six road contests.
“The 2014 schedule is a very challenging but exciting schedule.” “However I believe that my coaching staff along with our players are excited and ready for the challenge” stated Head Coach David Hutchison.
The Pioneers open up the 2014 season on the road Saturday, September 6th as they travel to Athens, West Virginia to take on Mountain East Conference foe Concord. Glenville State did not play Concord last season.
In week two GSC will return home as they host West Liberty Saturday, September 13th. Last season the Pioneers were defeated by the Hilltoppers 16-13.
Week three takes the Pioneers back on the road as they travel to Fairmont State in the annual Battle of the Bit on Saturday, September 20th. The Pioneers won last season 31-14.
Week four GSC returns home to host Urbana on Saturday, September 27th. GSC fell to Urbana last season on the road 12-9.
The Pioneers then travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on October 4th in week five of the season. The Pioneers defeated the Bobcats last year by a final of 35-32.
Saturday, October 11th GSC returns home as they host the University of Charleston for a match up with the Golden Eagles which is also the annual GSC Homecoming event. The Pioneers fell to the Golden Eagles last season 17-10.
On Saturday, October 18th Glenville State travels to the University of Virginia at Wise. The Pioneers defeated UVa-Wise last season at home 49-7.
The Pioneers then come home to battle Notre Dame College Saturday, October 25th. GSC defeated Notre Dame on the road last year 20-16.
On Saturday, November 1st GSC will travel to Shepherd University. Last season the Rams won 45-19 over the Pioneers. Shepherd also won the Mountain East Conference Championship last season.
On Saturday, November 8th the Pioneers travel to Walsh University for their only non-conference game of the 2014 season. The Cavaliers fell to the Pioneers last season 33-21.
The last game of the regular season the Pioneers host the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets on Saturday, November 15th. Last season the Pioneers defeated the Yellow Jackets on the road, 17-12.
“It is nice to have our schedule completed so now we can focus our time on our off-season program, getting our players right in the classroom as well as making improvements on the field during the spring, as we get ready for the 2014 season,” Hutchison finished with.
