Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers softball team swept the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 6-5 and 3-0.
In the first game of the double header Morgan Scarpellini got the Lady Pioneers on the scoreboard first as she hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the first inning scoring Kayleigh Huck as GSC took a 2-0 lead.
However West Virginia Tech would tie it up 2-2 in the next inning after a two run homerun by Tech’s Ashley Boggs.
West Virginia Tech would then take their first lead of the game in the top of the third inning after a solo homerun from Breigh Renner, 3-2.
GSC’s Scarpellini would come up big again for the Lady Pioneers as she hit another two run homerun in the bottom of the second, scoring Huck again, as GSC retook the lead, 4-3.
Morgan Scarpellini would later add another run for GSC as she scored in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch as the Lady Pioneers would go up 5-3.
West Virginia Tech would add one run in the top of the sixth after a wild pitch from Sam Weaver allowed Megan Blythe to score making it 5-4 GSC.
West Virginia Tech would have one last chance in the top of the seventh inning. Tech would load the bases and tie it up at 5-5 after RBI by Ashley Boggs as Kat Lively scored.
GSC would then win it in the bottom of the seventh inning as Kayleigh Huck scored on a balk by West Virginia Tech’s pitcher Mackenzie Wilson as the Lady Pioneers won, 6-5.
Morgan Scarpellini went 2 for 2 with 4 RBI’s and had two homeruns. Briana Jackson finished with 2 hits while Kayleigh Huck went 2 for 4 and scored 3 runs.
Raven Greer picked up the win for the Lady Pioneers as she pitched 2.1 innings allowing 3 hits, a run, and struck out 4 batters.
West Virginia Tech was led by Ashley Boggs as she went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and scored a run.
In the second game of the double header, the Lady Pioneers scored first in the bottom of the second inning as Brittany Spencer scored on a wild pitch as GSC took a 1-0 lead.
GSC would add a two more runs in the bottom of the third inning as they took a 3-0 lead over West Virginia Tech.
And that would be enough as GSC would go on to win game two 3-0.
Brittany Spencer went 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored a run while Mackenzie Smith finished with an RBI.
Sam Weaver pitched all 7 innings allowing just 1 hit, walked 1 batter, and struck out 4 batters.
West Virginia Tech only hit came from Aquila Fox.
The Lady Pioneers return to action Saturday, April 12th when Concord travels to Glenville.
