Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers softball team battled the UVA-Wise Cavaliers on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the Sue Morris Sports Complex, however GSC dropped both games to the Cavaliers as UVA-Wise won game one 7-1 and won game two 10-0.
In game one the Lady Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Morgan Scarpellini hit an RBI double scoring Carly Caldon.
Then in the top of the second UVA-Wise would tie it up at 1-1 after an
sacrifice fly scored a run. UVA-wise would then take their first lead of the game in the top of the third inning after they scored another run taking a 2-1 lead over GSC.
UVA-Wise would then have a huge sixth inning as they scored five runs as they went on to defeat the Lady Pioneers, 7-1.
Morgan Scarpellini went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Carly Caldon went 1 for 3 and scored a run. Brittany May pitched all seven innings allowing 10 hits, 7 runs, and had a strike out.
In the second game, UVA-Wise would take a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning. The Cavaliers would add another run in the top of the third inning as they took a 4-0 lead. After that it was all Cavaliers from there on out as the Lady Pioneers could not get their bats going, they would fall in the second game of the double header 10-0.
Morgan Scarpellini had the only hit for GSC aas she went 1 for 3 in the game. Sam Weaver pitched all seven innings allowing 8 hits, 10 runs, and finished with 7 strike outs.
The Lady Pioneers return to action Tuesday, April 22nd at home as West Virginia Wesleyan travels to Glenville for a double header. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
