Salem, Va. - The Glenville State Lady Pioneers defeated the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets in an elimination game in the MEC Conference Softball Tournament, 6-4.
West Virginia State would jump out to a 3-0 lead over the Lady Pioneers in the first inning. However GSC would come right back in the second inning and take their first lead 4-3 after Casey Sheaffer singled scoring Tia LeMaster and Kayleigh Huck. Later in the same inning Charity Ramsey singled scoring Casey Sheaffer and Emily Meyers would score by stealing home.
West Virginia State would tie it up at 4-4 in the bottom of the second inning but GSC would then again come right back and retake the lead 5-4 in the fifth inning as Mackenzie Smith hit an RBI double scoring Kayleigh Huck.
The Lady Pioneers would add another run in the seventh inning as they would go on to the win 6-4.
Mackenzie Smith led GSC as she went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s while Charity Ramsey went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Brittany May pitched 6.1 inning allowing 7 hits, 1 run, and struck out 3 batters.
The Lady Pioneers will play Fairmont State tonight at 7:30 pm in another elimination game as they try and move on in the MEC Conference Softball Tournament.
