Glenville State College 2nd Annual Brandi Bowen Memorial Pioneer Invitational a Huge Success

gsc track and fieldOn Friday April 9th the Glenville State College Track and Field team held the 2nd Annual Brandi Bowen Memorial Pioneer Invitational it was a huge success. Head Coach Cam Perry was pleased with the turnout. “We had 8 teams compete at this years Invitational, and it means a lot to everyone that is apart of the GSC community to hold this event in Brandi Bowen’s memory.”

Overall the GSC Men’s and Women’s team both competed very well at the Invitational. West Virginia Wesleyan Women’s team finished 1st overall, with Concord University finishing 2nd, and Glenville State College finishing 3rd overall.
On the Men’s side West Virginia Wesleyan finished 1st, with Concord coming in 2nd, and Glenville State College coming in 3rd.
Women’s
In the Women’s 400 Meter Dash Nicole Himes finished 4th overall with a time of 64.11. Freshman Marteney Jacobs finished 4th overall in the Women’s 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.66, she also finished 2nd in the Women’s Long Jump with a jump of 4.87 meters.  Miranda Reed finished 2nd in the Women’s 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 67.15.
Glenville State College took 1st, 2nd, 3rd , and 4th in the Women’s Shot Put, with Cindy Hillberry coming in 1st with a distance of 42.05 meters, Alicia Cayton finished 2nd with a distance of 39.04 meters, Chelsea Tripp came in 3rd with a distance of 36.06 meters, and Elsie Smith came in 4th with a distance 35.04 meters.
Senior Lauren Saelens finished 4th in the Women’s Javelin Throw with a throw of 27.76 meters.
Overall the Women had a very successful meet, and conteniue to get better and better as the season goes on.
Men’s
Akheem Figgs had another great meet for the GSC Men’s side. Figgs finished 1st in the Men’s 100 Meter Dash with a time of 10.89, he also finished 2nd in the Men’s 200 Meter Dash with a time of 22.09.
TJ Abel smoked everyone in the Men’s 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:58.90, he also finished 1st in the Men’s 1500 Meter Run doing the same amount of destruction to the rest of the field with a time 4:07.57.
In the Men’s 10,000 Meter Run Dustin “Woody” Woods placed 1st for GSC with a time of 35:25.2h. Jordan Swiger finished 1st in the Men’s High Jump with a jump of 6-04.00, Jordan also finished 5th in the Men’s Long Jump with a jump of 6.06 meters.
Chris Freeman also had a very good meet; he finished 2nd in the Men’s Shot Put , 2nd in the Men’s Discus Throw, and 2nd in the Men’s Hammer Throw. Freeman’s distance in the shot put was 47-11.00, in the discus throw a distance of 43.40 meters, and a 41.53 meters in the hammer throw.
Overall the 2nd Annual Brandi Bowen Memorial Pioneer Invitational was a great success; it helped recognize not only a great athlete but a great person that we lost, “Brandi will always be a Pioneer and we will miss here very very much”, stated Coach Cam Perry.
The Pioneer Track and Field teams will return to action on April 14th when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan.
