Washington, PA - (4/3/2010) The Glenville State College Track and Field team competed at W&J Invitational over the weekend. It was beautiful weather on Saturday for the GSC Track team, and the team ran well.
Glenville State College also had a runner brake a record on the day. Glenville State’s Ahkeem Figgs broke the Men’s 100 Meter dash with a time of 10.62, the record was held by GSC Chup Robinson and Xavier Glenn with a time of 10.69. “Figgs is a very talented young man, and he works very hard in practice, I am glad to see all of his hard work is paying off,” said Head Track coach Cam Perry.
Out of 14 teams GSC Women finished 6th and the Men finished 5th, “we didn’t run as well as a team today but we improved as individuals and that is what I like to see if we can’t win the meet,” stated coach Perry.
On the women’s side Marteney Jacobs placed 3rd in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.25, 4th in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.99m, and 5th in the Triple Jump with a distance of 9.81m. Overall Jacobs had a very productive day and as a freshman she will still improve as the season continues.
Also on the women’s side Miranda Reed took 1st place in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:06.00, which is also the new meet record.. In the 3000 Meter Steeplechase Chelsea “Sticks” Stickelman finished 3rd while fellow teammate Courtney Rzepka finished 4th.
Cindy Hillberry placed 1st in the Shot Put with a distance of 12.40m and finished 3rd in the Discus Throw with a distance of 34.99m. Also Alicia Clayton placed 3rd in the Shot Put as well with a distance of 11.76m.
On the Men’s side Akheem Figgs broke the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 10.62, as well as Joe Mesadieu placed 2nd in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.12. David Sowell placed 4th in the 200 Meter Dash.
In the Men’s 800 Meter TJ Abel finished 2nd with a time of 1:56.00. In the Men’s High Jump Jordan Swiger placed 1st with a jump of 1.95m, while Chris Freeman placed 2nd in the Shot Put and 3rd in the Discus Throw.
The GSC 4X400 Meter team finished 2nd with a time of 3:28.99, the team is made up of Adam Leonard, Joe Mesadieu, Ronnie Mills, and Akheem Figgs.
Overall the GSC Track and Field team competed very well at W&J Invitational, they will return to action April 9th, 2010 when GSC hosts its home track meet.
