The Glenville State College Softball team has received a letter of intent from Wadsworth, Ohio senior Samantha Weaver to play for the Pioneers next year.
GSC Head Coach Tim Spencer saw a video of Weaver pitching on the web site www.berecruited.com and invited her for a visit and a workout. After her visit, Spencer offered Weaver a scholarship to play for the Lady Pioneers.
Weaver is very excited to be heading to GSC which as she said, “has a number of great players on the team already.”
This season Weaver has a 5-0 mound record and is sporting a 0.80 earned run average. She leads the Wadsworth High School Grizzlies with 46 strikeouts.
“Softball is a big thing at GSC,” Weaver said. “They’ll have 200 fans at their games. People will adopt you into their family and treat you as one of their own. It’s a really friendly place. It felt like home.”
The Lady Pioneers put together 25-plus win seasons the last two years and had winning records in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as well, including a 17-14 mark in 2010.
The Lady Pioneers are excited about adding Weaver into next year’s rotation. “Sam is really going to help us out. We can’t wait to get her in here and see what she can bring to the team,” said Spencer.
