Lady Pioneers Fall to Shepherd University in Double Header

The GSC Lady Pioneers softball team traveled to Shepherd University to take on the Rams Wednesday afternoon in a WVIAC Conference double header.

In game one both teams struggled to fine their offense as both teams only recorded 4 hits a piece. It was a scoreless game all the way till the bottom of the sixth inning when the Rams Courtni Williams scored on an error by second baseman Erin Morgan. That run ended up being the winning run as the Lady Pioneers could not score in the final inning to extend the game.

Kayleigh Huck went 1 for 3 for GSC, while Carly Caldon and Morgan Scarpellini also went 1 for 3. Erin Morgan went 1 for 4 for the Lady Pioneers.

Amber Dudek led the Rams as she went 2 for 3, and Courtni Williams scored the only run on an error.

Ally Southall pitched the whole game for GSC, allowing only 4 hits while she struck out 5 batters, and walked 2 batters.

Nichole Pitcock pitched a complete game and a shut out for the Rams as she struck out 9 batters and walked 5 as she picked up the win.

In game two, the Lady Pioneers looked to get back on the winning track. GSC took an early lead in the top of the first inning after Kayleigh Huck drove in Brittney Handley as the Lady Pioneers went up 1-0.

GSC held on to that lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Rams took the lead 2-1 after Cammie Orlandi drove home Bianca Biondillo. Then the Rams Chelsie Oals singled which brought home Stephanie Hudlow.

The Lady Pioneers tried to regain the lead back but couldn’t as the Rams held on to a 2-1 victory.

GSC was led by Kayleigh Huck as she went 1 for 4 with an RBI. Brittney Handley went 1 for 4 and scored the only run for the Lady Pioneers. Lacey Williams and Carly Caldon both went 1 for 3 in the game.

Shepherd was led by Chelsie Oals she went 1 for 3 with and RBI. Cammie Orlandi went 1 for 2 with an RBI, while Bianca Biondillo went 1 for 2 and scored a run.

Jessica Fedor pitched the whole game for GSC as she struck out 4 batters, but allowed 4 hits and 2 runs. Brooke Stambaugh pitched all seven innings for the Rams. She struck out 7 batters and walked 5 batters.

The Lady Pioneers are now sitting at 14-20 (10-8), they will take the diamond tomorrow when they travel to battle Bluefield State. Game time set for 2:00PM.
