Lady Pioneers Defeat West Liberty in Double Header

The Lady Pioneers softball battled WVIAC Conference foe West Liberty University on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
In game one, both teams had excellent pitching as the game went score less until the bottom of the fourth inning when our Lady Pioneers scored off of a Morgan Scarpellini single which scored Carly Caldon from third base as they went on to win  the game 1-0.
The Lady Pioneers recorded 9 hits on the afternoon while their defense held the Toppers to only 3 hits.
GSC was led by Morgan Scarpellini as she went 2 for 3 with an RBI; Carly Caldon went 1 for 2 and scored the games only run. Brittney Handley went 3 for 4 in the game.
West Liberty was led by Martin Kelsey as she went 2 for 3 and Felicia Hulslander went 1 for 3.
Ally Southall pitched a great game as she pitched all seven innings, she allowed only 3 hits, while she struck out 5 batters, and only walked 1 as she picked up the win for GSC.
Sara Emerich pitched all seven innings for West Liberty as she allowed 9 hits; she had no strike outs, and walked 3 batters.
In game two, the Lady Pioneers got on the score board first after Shelby Colson hit a double which drove in Lacey Williams as they took a 1-0 heading into the top of the second. West Liberty tied it at 1 a piece in the second inning when Courtney Loe scored off of a single by Katelyn Kumm.
But GSC took the lead back in the third inning when Katelyn Porter hit a double which scored Shelby Colson and Kayleigh Huck to make it 3-1, but the Lady Pioneers weren’t done they scored another run off of an error by West Liberty as Katelyn Porter scored which then made it 4-1 in favor of GSC.
West Liberty tried to get back in the game but the Lady Pioneers defense denied them any chance of making a run as GSC won 4-1.
GSC was led by Katelyn Porter as she went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and scored a run. Shelby Colson went 3 for 4 with an RBI and scored a run. Also for GSC Morgan Scarpellini went 1 for 3 with a RBI.
West Liberty was led by Katelyn Kumm as she went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Meagan Lesser pitched five innings as she allowed 6 hits, struck out 2 batters, and walked 2 as well. Jessica Fedor pitched two innings for GSC as she allowed 1 hit and struck out 2 batters.
Angela Johnson pitched three innings for West Liberty as she allowed 6 hits and walked 3 batters.
The Lady Pioneers are 12-16 (8-4) on the year and will travel to West Virginia State on Thursday, April 14th. Game time is set for 5:00PM.
