Lady Pioneers Split Double Header with Fairmont State

The Lady Pioneers softball team battled the Fairmont State University Fighting Falcons on Saturday afternoon in a double header at the Sue Morris Complex.
In game one, both teams got off to slow start due to the excellent pitching. The Lady Pioneers only recorded 5 hits in the game as Fairmont State only had 4.
The difference in the game came in the top of the six inning when Ally Southall had a wide pitch which allowed Jessie Faloon to score for the Fighting Falcons.
FSU added to their score in the top of the seventh when Jessie Faloon hit a double which brought home Megan Williams to bring the Fighting Falcons led 2 to 0.
In the bottom of the seventh the Lady Pioneers could not find their bats as FSU got three quick outs to end the game.
The Lady Pioneers were led by Brittnay Spencer as she went 1 for 2. Christie Hittel went 1 for 3, while Megan Lesser, Kayleigh Huck, and Katelyn Porter also all went 1 for 3 in the game.
The Fighting Falcons were led by Jessie Faloon as she went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored a run. Also for the Fighting Falcons Megan Williams went 1 for 2 and scored a run.
Ally Southall pitched all seven innings for GSC, she allowed only 4 hits, struck out 1 batter, and walked 1 as well.
Chelsea Cobb picks up the win for FSU as she pitched all seven innings, she allowed only 5 hits, struck out 6 batters, and had no walks.
In game two, the Lady Pioneers got off to a good start after Kayleigh Huck hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the first as GSC went up 2-0.
GSC then added to their lead in the bottom of the second after Brittnay Spencer hit a double to bring home Carly Caldon which made it 3-0 in favor of the Lady Pioneers.
The Fighting Falcons never gave up as they got on the score board in the sixth inning when Kayla Gray hit a single which scored Chelsea Simon to make it 3-1.
But the Lady Pioneers came right back and scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded when Lacey Williams hit a base clearing double as Katelyn Porter, Morgan Scarpellini, and Brittney Handley all scored as GSC went on to win the game 6-1.
GSC was led by Kayleigh Huck as she went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and a homerun; Lacey Williams went 1 for 4 as well and had 3 RBI’s.
Fairmont State was led by Kayla Gray as she went 1 for 3 and an RBI and Chelsea Simon went 1 for 2 and scored the only run for the Fighting Falcons.
Jessica Fedor pitched five innings as she allowed only 6 hits, struck out 1 batter, and had no walks. Megan Lesser allowed no hits as she pitched two innings for GSC.
Katie Burgess pitched four innings for FSU as she allowed only 4 hits, she struck out 4 batters, and walked 1 batter, but she gave up 3 runs. Nikki Nuzum also pitched for FSU, she pitched two innings and allowed 1 hit, she walked 4 batters, and allowed 3 runs to score.
The Lady Pioneers improve to 10-16 (6-4) and will take on West Liberty on Sunday, April 9th at the Sue Morris Complex. Game time is set for 2:00PM.
