Lady Pioneers Sweep Alderson-Broaddus

The Lady Pioneers softball team battled WVIAC Conference opponent the Alderson-Broaddus College Battlers in a double header on Saturday, March 26th.
In game one GSC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Lacey Williams hit her seventh home run of the season. The Battlers came right back however, in the top of the fourth, after Jennifer Francis drove in Kat Powell on a RBI single to tie it up at 1-1.
The Lady Pioneers once again got their bats going in the bottom of the fourth as they had five hits and scored four runs to take a 5-1 led.
GSC added another run in the bottom of the sixth when Brittnay Spencer hit a homerun to make the score 6-1.
The Battlers made a late charge when Lisa Boswell hit a three run homerun in the top of the seventh with two outs to bring them within two runs at 6-4. The Lady Pioneers held on to claim the victory 6-4.
GSC was led by Brittney Handley as she went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI while Brittnay Spencer went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Lacey Williams went deep in the third inning and ended the game 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
Ally Southall pitched all seven innings; she struck out 3 batters, walked 1, and allowed only five hits.
The Battlers were led by Lisa Boswell as she went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and 1 run scored.
In game two Alderson-Broaddus took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third as Kat Powell drove in two runs with a single. The Lady Pioneers came back to take the lead in the bottom of the third when Kayleigh Huck drove in a run and Lacey Williams went deep again for her eighth homerun of the season as the GSC took a 3-2 lead.
The Battlers tied it up a 3 a piece in the top of the fifth. However, GSC came right back once again and took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth as Kayleigh Huck drove in another run, which ended up as the winning run as the Lady Pioneers went on to claim a 4-3 win.
Kayleigh Huck went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and 1 run scored. Jessica Fedor pitched all 7 innings as she struck out 2 batters, and allowed 8 hits.
The Lady Pioneers are 8-12 (4-0) on the season and will take on Missouri-St. Louis on March 30th. Game time is set for 4:00PM.
