Morgan Scarpellini hit a double in the bottom of the 7th inning to bring Carly Caldon home, and the Lady Pioneers pulled out a victory against Concord University 2-1 in game one of a double-header.
GSC got on the scoreboard first when catcher Lacey Williams hit a triple to drive in Erin Morgan as they took an early 1-0 lead.
GSC led most of the game until Tamara Smith had a sacrifice fly driving in Rachael Mack as the Concord Mountain Lions tied it at 1-1 in the top of 6th.
The Lady Pioneers battled back as Morgan Scarpellini drove in Carly Caldon with the winning run and GSC went on to claim a 2-1 victory.
GSC was led by Carly Caldon as she went 2 for 3 and scored 1 run, while Erin Morgan also went 2 for 3 and scored the other run for the Lady Pioneers.
Jessica Fedor pitched a great game as she went all 7 innings, and struck out 3 batters, walked 2, and allowed only 3 hits.
Concord was led by Rachael Mack as she went 1 for 1 and scored a run for the Mountain Lions.
In game two, the Lady Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd as Meagan Lesser hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Erin Morgan.
Concord came right back and took the lead in the top of the 6th inning, scoring five runs to take a 6-4 lead. The Lady Pioneers eventually took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th when Lacey Williams hit a 3 run homer, and GSC held on for a 7-6 victory.
GSC was led by Lacey Williams as she went 2 for 3 with 5 RBI’s while Carly Caldon went 2 for 3.
Ally Southall pitched 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 runs; she walked 2 batters and struck out 3.
The Lady Pioneers are sitting at 3-9 (2-0) on the season and they will travel to Salem, VA over the weekend to play in the WVWC Tournament.
