-The Lady Pioneers battled Mercyhurst in a double header on Monday, March 14th.
In game one of the double-header, the Lady Pioneers trailed early as Mercyhurst took a 6-1 lead in the top of the third inning. GSC tried to mount a comeback, but came up short as they could only muster one more run, and fell to Mercyhurst by a score of 14-2.
Brittney Handley led the Lady Pioneers as she went 2 for 4 and had 2 RBI’s. Brittnay Spencer went 3 for 3 and scored the two runs for the Lady Pioneers.
Shelby Colson also had a hit for the Lady Pioneers, while Chritie Hittel went 1 for 3.
Jessica Fedor pitched all 7 innings as she had 1 strike out 1, and issued 1 walk. The Lady Pioneers defense gave up 22 hits and allowed 14 runs.
Mercyhurst was led by Samantha Eimers as she went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs.
In game two the Lady Pioneers took a 2-1 lead after Morgan Scarpellini hit a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Mercyhurst stormed right back however, as Samantha Eimers hit a 2 run shot of her own and Mercyhurst retook the lead 3-2 in the top of the 3rd. They would hold on to the win by a score of 7-4.
GSC was led by Brittney Handley as she went 3 for 4, while Lacey Williams went 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. She also had a homerun for GSC.
Additionally for the Lady Pioneers, Morgan Scarpellini went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and 1 run scored.
Ally Southall went all 7 innings for GSC as she struck out 3 batters and walked 3.
The Lady Pioneers gave up 7 hits in game two.
Mercyhurst was again led by Samantha Eimers as she went 2 for 4 with 5 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.
The Lady Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, March 16th when they face WVIAC Conference foe Concord at home.
