Samantha Fordyce’s sixth inning grand slam broke open a close game as #12 seed Ohio Valley pulled off the upset. Preet Dhillon added three hits and Raegan Turner gave OVU a strong pitching effort. Tabitha Hill also chipped in a pair of hits for the Lady Scot cause.
Turner allowed eight hits, but only surrendered one run while striking out four. Mandy Parkulo took the loss for GSC, giving up seven hits and six earned runs in 5 1/3 frames.
Brittney Handley and Erin Morgan managed two hits each for the Pioneers. Leanne Harris drove in the only GSC run on a perfect squeeze bunt that plated Tia Via in the fifth.
