The Glenville State College Lady Pioneers Softball team swept Davis & Elkins Senators on Sunday April 18. The Lady Pioneers need to play well as the season is winding down and that is just what they did.
In game one the Lady Pioneers as a team had 9 hits, with Brittany Handley going 2 of 3 with 1 RBI, also Erin Morgan had 2 hits, she went 2 of 4 with 1 RBI. Karly Eskew, Katelyn Porter, Brooke Foster, Stacy Mack, and Christie Hittel all had hits in game one. Hittel’s hit left the park in the bottom of the 5th inning, which drove in 3 runs.
Handley and Eskew both had stolen bases for GSC.
The Lady Pioneers came up big when they need to and won game one 9-5. Senior Mandy Parkulo pitched a whole game allowing 9 hits, 5 runs, and had 1 strikeout.
In game two the Lady Pioneers had an even better game with their bats racking up 12 hits as a team, while only allowing D&E 5 hits.
Senior Leanne Harris had a great game she went 4 of 4 with 1 homerun, and 3 RBI’s; she also had 2 stolen bases as well. Brittany Handley also had another good game; she went 3 of 4 in game two.
Erin Morgan, Karly Eskew, Raquel Williams, Sara McFarland, and Tia Via all had hits in game two. Laura Childers pitched 4 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, and had 3 strikeouts, also freshman Megan Lesser pitched 3 inning as well for the Lady Pioneers, she gave up 2 hits, 0 runs, and had 2 strikeouts. The Lady Pioneers won game two 7-2.
Overall the Lady Pioneers dominated both games, which got them two good wins. The Lady Pioneers will not return to action until Friday April 23 when Shepherd University Rams travel to Glenville, WV for a WVIAC double header, game time is set for 4:00PM.
