Each year the Glenville State Athletic Department, under the direction of Janet Bailey, selects the men’s or women’s team with the highest GPA as the winner of the Academic Challenge. “The Brain Award” as it’s become known as, is actually a miniature brain with the athletic logo fashioned on both sides.

“It is very competitive, and not only do the athletes what to win, but so do the coaches. They are very competitive when it comes to The Brain,” stated Athletic Director Janet Bailey.
The winner of The Brain for the 2010 Fall Semester is the GSC Lady Pioneers Women’s Golf team. First year Head Coach Jonathan Griffin is very excited about his teams GPA, and is very honored to win The Brain.
“I am very happy for my girls. I think that it shows how much these student athletes have on their plate and how much work they put into their classes,” stated coach Griffin. The Members of the Lady Pioneers Women’s Golf team are Olivia Ferrell, Sammi Moore, Alex Fitzwater, Krystle Bailey, Kathleen Mizener, and Morgan Talbott. It’s not unusual for student athletes to put in 12 hour days during the season.
The Women’s Golf team had average G.P.A. of 3.23. The previous winners of The Brain were the Women’s Softball team.
Coach Cam Perry’s Men’s Cross CountryTeam led the way for the Men’s teams with a 2.81 average.
Congratulations to these student athletes and Coaches.
