West Liberty held off hard-charging Concord by three shots to claim the 2010 WVIAC Women’s Golf Championship team title. The Hilltoppers carded a 36-hole total of 655 at the par-72 Canaan Valley State Park Golf Course to edge the Mountain Lions.
The Toppers built an 11-shot lead in Friday’s chilly first round conditions. Concord recorded the tournament’s low team round of 320 in Saturday’s final round, but couldn’t overcome West Liberty’s big opening day advantage.
Individual medalist honors go to West Liberty’s Emily Taylor, who fired rounds of 77 and 73 to end at six-over par 150. Concord’s Vivian Garciaferro was second with a 156 composite score. West Liberty’s Sarah Relyea and Ohio Valley’s Sue Goldcamp tied for fourth at 161. Nicole Shaw of Concord notched a 162 to round out the top five.
Defending champion Ohio Valley (684) finished third in the team race. Wheeling Jesuit (695) and Seton Hill (705) completed the top five.
