The Lady Pioneer softball team stumbled down the stretch in their weekend trip to Virginia. On Saturday afternoon Glenville battled Shippensburg in a return matchup from the earlier Catawba Tournament.
After two scoreless innings, Glenville put up three in the third inning, with Karly Eskew and Meagan Lesser both doubling in runs. Shippensburg would however respond with four in their half of the fifth due to some Pioneer errors, and claimed the lead for good 4-3.
On their second game of the day, early errors led to a three run big blast by Millersville and put the Pioneers in a 5-0 hole. In the third inning GSC cleared the bench bringing in Raquel Williams, Tanya Melhorn, Tia Via, and Stacy Mack. The substitutions would turn out to be the bright spot of the contest for the Lady Pioneers.
Tanya Melhorn went two for two with a walk, Stacy Mack went one for three, and Raquel Williams made three difficult catches in right. In the end it wouldn’t be enough however as Glenville fell, 7-2
Glenville closed out their weekend Sunday with Indiana(PA) and couldn’t shake the cobwebs from a rocky saturday. A couple big flys, some more pioneer errors, and a slew of basehits sent the contest to an early 8-0 fininsh in five inning.
GSC will now enter full time WVIAC play, starting with a home doubleheader against Salem International Wednesday afternoon. As they enter the conference swing they are 13-18, with a 1-1 mark early in WVIAC play.
