Joe Mesadiue made the most of his first start of the season with 203 rush yards on 23 carries as Glenville State (4-4, 3-2) ran past West Virginia State (0-7, 0-5). The Pioneers powered their way to 344 yards on the ground as they played without regular starting quarterback Darold Hughes.
Two Eddie McKay field goals, a Kareem Alexander 19-yard touchdown rush, and a 14-yard Gabe Profitt to Mark Jackson scoring pass helped Glenville State build a 20-7 lead at the break.
A pair of Ricky Phillips to Jermain King touchdown passes in the second half pulled West Virginia State within a touchdown on two occasions, but the Pioneers put the game away with a six-yard Norman Seigniou fumble return with 2:23 to play.
Phillips hit on 21 of 35 passes for 176 yards and also led the Jackets with 78 rush yards. King had a game-high five catches for 75 yards. Glenville State owned a 439-283 edge in total offense.
