The Glenville State Pioneers lost their first conference game of the season at the hands of West Liberty Saturday afternoon, the West Liberty Hilltoppers topped off homecoming the right way as they defeated the Pioneers 47-21.
Zach Amedro completed 37 of 56 passes for 462 yards and five touchdowns as West Liberty (3-2, 2-1) downed Glenville State (3-3, 2-1).
The Pioneers got down early to the Hilltoppers as West Liberty took a 20-14 lead at halftime. Three different Hilltoppers gained at least 100 receiving yards. Pauly Ferguson made eight grabs for a game-best 128 yards and two scores. Ryan Travis had 13 catches for 126 yards, while Jermaine Carter ended with nine receptions for 112 yards.
Pioneers quarterback Darold Hughes and the passing game accounted for virtually all of the Glenville State offense. Hughes hit on 19 of 40 passes for 253 yards and three scores. The Pioneers only managed 15 rush yards and were outgained 524-277 on the day by West Liberty.
Antwan Stewart led the Pioneers with 110 receiving yards on five catches for GSC, while Wes Hanson nabbed touchdown catches of 48 and 9 yards, also junior Jordan Griffin led the Pioneers in receptions with 8 but only managed 55 yards.
The Pioneers defense struggled to stop the Hilltoppers high flying offense. Donald Marshall recorded 10 tackles to lead the Pioneers, Terry Reese and Matt Parker both add 6 tackles.
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday as they travel to battle Concord University kickoff is set for 3:30PM.
