Pitchers Laura Childers and Mandy Parkulo would combine to two hit the #10 seed Lady Hilttoppers of West Liberty State on their way to a 2-1 victory.
GSC would start the scoring in their first at bat as Leanne Harris would lead off the game with a double and then score on Kohle Maynards double to left center fence.
WLSC would knot the game at 1 all in the top of the 4th as the 1B Marcum would crush a one out homer to left field.
The score would stay the same until the Pioneers half of the 7th. Harris would get things going by drawing a 1 out walk. After a Candace White pop up, Harris would move to 2nd on a stolen base. Karly Eskew would then hit a bloop single over the shortstops head to drive in the winning run.
Parkulo would pick up the win in relieve as she came on in the 5th and pitched three innings of hitless ball.
The Lady Pioneers used a key three run 6th inning to break up a one run ball game on their way to upsetting the #2 seed Lady Falcons of Fairmont State.
Parkulo would pitch seven strong innings giving up one run on seven hits to pick up the win. Heather Shutler, the WVIAC leader in ERA at 0.79, would take the loss as she would surrender five runs on seven hits in 61/3 innings.
Glenville State would open the scoring in the 5th inning as Erin Morgan would lead off with a single to center, move to 2nd on a sac bunt by Lacey Williams and eventually score on a 2-out RBI single by Brittney Handley.
GSC’s big 6th inning would all happen with two outs as White and Eskew would quickly be retired. Maynard would start things off with a single. Morgan Elswick would reach on an error by the shortstop, and Erin Morgan would single to load the bases for Williams.
Williams, who had been struggling at the plate (just 3 hits in her last 16 at bats) would drill a fastball to the gap in right center field for a bases clearing triple.
The Falcons would get their only run in the bottom half of the 6th with a 2-out single by B. Keene.
The Lady Pioneers would add two more insurance runs in the top of the 7th as Candace White would double to score Harris and then eventually score the 6th GSC run on a passed ball.
Harris and Morgan lead the way with two hits a piece.
The Lady Pioneers will now take on #6 seed Wheeling Jesuit Friday afternoon in the rain soaked WVIAC Tournament. The game time is still TBD due to the wash out of the loser’s bracket games on Thursday night. Updates on the exact game time will be posted on the GSC Pioneers website, as well as twitter.com.
