Concord University captured the WVIAC Men’s Golf Championship in record-breaking fashion as the Mountain Lions coasted to a 52-stroke victory and established a new 54-hole team standard of 881.
The record of 887 was previously owned by the 1995 Glenville State and 2004 Concord squads. West Liberty (933) held off West Virginia Wesleyan by two strokes for second place. Bluefield State (950) and Davis & Elkins (957) complete the top five in the team race.
Concord’s Emmanuel Charmat narrowly missed an individual tournament record. The senior carded a 74 in Tuesday’s final round to finish the 54-hole event at two-under par 214 to threaten three-time West Virginia Amateur champion and former Glenville State star Tim Fisher’s record 212 total.
Alisdair Forsythe of Davis & Elkins earned runner-up honors at one-over par 217. Concord teammates Ryan Terdik (220) and Matt Morgan (223) finished third and fourth. West Virginia Wesleyan’s Mark Johnson recorded Tuesday’s low round of 70 to finish fifth with a 224 total.
