GSC Softball Grabs Split on White’s Walk Off

Glenville State recovered from a tough loss in the opener to pick up a split in dramatic fashion with the visiting Lady Griffins of Seton Hill. After dropping the opener 3-2, Candace White hit her second walk off home run of the season to give the Lady Pioneers a 6-3 victory in 9 innings. GSC improved to 17-18 Overall and 13-7 in the WVIAC.
Game 1

Glenville St. couldn’t overcome a poor fielding performance as they gave up three unearned runs on their way to a 3-2 loss in game 1.
Seton Hill would open the scoring in the 2nd as DiVittorio would reach on a fielder’s choice. Piekut would then reach on a throwing error by the 3rd baseman which would allow DiVittorio to score. SHU would lead 1-0 after the top of the 2nd.
GSC would answer with two runs in the 4th inning. With one out, Kohle Maynard would single. The pinch runner Lindsay Smith would then steal 2nd and score on an Erin Morgan RBI single. Karly Eskew would follow with a single and push Morgan to 3rd. Two pitches later Morgan would score on a passed ball to give the Lady Pioneers a brief 2-1 lead after four innings.
SHU would come right back in the top of the fifth to tie the game up at 2-2. Kirby would reach on an error by the 3rd baseman and move to second. She would advance to third on a fly out by Kaczynski and then score on a throwing error by the second baseman.
The Lady Griffins would get the go ahead run in the top of the 7th, once again on an error. With two outs, Jones would reach second on a fielding error by the centerfielder. After Wiegand was intentionally walked, B. Bitsko would single to right center to plate Jones.
The Pioneers would have runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out in the bottom of the 7th but were unable to get the tying run across.
Parkulo would pitch all seven innings, giving up three runs, none earned on five hits. She also walked five and struck out three.
Candace White went 2 for 3 for the Lady Pioneers.
Game 2

The Pioneers fell behind early but rallied with two runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game, and then won it on a 3 run walk off HR by Candace White.
After three scoreless innings by both teams, Seton Hill would explode for three runs in top of the 4th. Bitsko would lead off with a single, and move to second on Nusser walk. Both runners would move up a base on a wild pitch from Laura Childers. Three pitches later Bitsko would score on another wild pitch to make it 1-0. After DiVittorio would draw a five pitch walk, Nusser would come home on the third Childers wild pitch of the inning.    Kaczynski would single to plate DiVittorio to make it 3-0.
GSC would get one back in the 4th as Harris would single and steal second then score on a Maynard RBI single to make it 3-1.
The score would stay that way until the bottom of the 7th. Maynard would lead off the inning with a solo homerun to left field. Erin Morgan would immediately follow with a double to the fence and move to third on a Karly Eskew single. Eskew would steal second to put the winning run in scoring position, however on the next pitch; Morgan would be tagged out trying to score on a passed ball. Two pitches later White would drill a double to score Eskew and send the ball game into extra innings.
After a scoreless 8th inning, Parkulo who relieved Childers in the 5th would quickly retire the side in the top of the 9th.
Maynard would reach after getting hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom half of the 9th. After a strikeout, Karly Eskew would single and move Maynard to third to set the stage for White. Candice would smack the offering over the left field fence for her second walk off home run of the season.
White, Eskew and Maynard each recorded two hits apiece. Maynard drove in two, while White drove in four.
Parkulo picked up the win in relief, pitching five shutout innings, scattering four hits.
