GSC Softball Splits With Fairmont State

The Glenville State Lady Pioneers got excellent pitching by Mandy Parkulo to pick up a split this afternoon against the Lady Falcons of Fairmont State. After dropping game one by a score of 4-1, GSC rebounded with a 2-0 victory in game two to improve to 13-16 Overall and 9-5 in WVIAC play.
Game 1
Box Score
Fairmont State scored its first run in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Kristy Rausch scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brooke Keene. The Falcons got another run in the top of the third when Rausch delivered a single that plated Whitnie Highland. FSU would add their final run in the top of the fifth when Rausch scored on a Keene single to give the Falcons a 4-0 advantage. The Pioneers would score a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as FSU took the 4-1 win
Heather Shutler tossed the complete game allowing one run, one hit, striking out six and walking a pair.
Morgan Elswick took the loss for GSC as she went five innings, giving up four runs, three earned while scattering seven hits.
Game 2
Box Score
Mandy Parkulo followed Shutler’s one hit gem, with one of her own going the distance for the complete game shutout. Parkulo would strike out one while walking none to improve to 8-12 on the season.
The Lady Pioneers would break the scoreless game with two runs in the bottom half of the 6th inning. After Kat Bowman was grounded out, Brooke Foster and Brittney Handley would each single and then move to 2nd and 3rd on a sacrifice bunt from Leanne Harris. Erin Morgan would then perfectly place the 1-0 outside fastball in between the 1st and 2nd baseman to score both runners.
Parkulo would pitch a 1, 2, 3 7th inning to seal the victory.
The Lady Pioneers return to action tomorrow at 1pm against Salem International. The game is scheduled to be played at Salem, but maybe be moved to Glenville depending on weather. Log on to gscpioneers.com for further updates.
