Ohio Valley roared from behind with a final round of four-under par 284 to nip Concord by four shots for the title at the WVIAC Southern Regional. The Fighting Scots’ 36-hole total of 578 outdistanced Concord (582) and Charleston (586).
OVU’s J.C. Beecroft also claimed the individual crown for the Fighting Scots. He tied with Fairmont State’s Matt Gissy at three-under par 141 before winning on the second sudden death playoff hole.
Charleston’s Alex Carrigan was a shot back at 142 for third. Eric Morris (Charleston) and first round leader Philip Somersall (Concord) recorded matching one-under par 143′s. J.R. Jones (Ohio Valley), David Haynes (Seton Hill), and Ryan Terdik (Concord) all ended at even-par 144.
Bluefield State notched a team total of 600 for a strong fourth place finish. Fairmont State (601), West Virginia Wesleyan (606), Seton Hill (607), and West Liberty (610) rounded out the top half of the 15-team field.
All 15 league squads will be in action October 20-22 at the 54-hole WVIAC Championship. Stonewall Resort will provide the championship test for a second consecutive season.
