Ohio Valley won the team title, and Clarion’s Jared Schmader (Cooperstown/Maplewood) won medalist honors at the 2008 Hal Hansen Invitational Golf Tournament hosted by Clarion University.
The tournament was held at the Clarion Oaks Golf Club in Clarion, Pa. and played to a par 72 both days.
Schmader, a Clarion sophomore, carded a second day total of five-under par 67 to go with his first day 74 and finished with a two-day score of 141 (one under par).
Ohio Valley’s J.C. Beecroft, who had a 70, 71 for an identical 141, tied Schmader for medalist honors and the two had a playoff that started on hole #1.
Schmader won the playoff with a par 4, as Beecroft made a 5.
Ohio Valley meanwhile took the team title with a two-day total of 594. OVU shot 294 on Monday to go with their 300 on Sunday. Finishing second was Cal with a 601, and Clarion, who had the best team total over the twp days on Monday with a 290, ended third with a 604, edging IUP who was fourth at 605.
Other Clarion individual scores included Mike DeAngelo (Jr. New Castle – Shenango) 79, 71, 150, Ross Pringle (Fr. Titusville) 76, 74, 150, Nick Brucker (Sr. Apollo, Kiski Area) 85, 82, 167 and Sean Foust (Emlenton, A.C. Valley) 87, 78 – 165.
