West Liberty State fired the tournament’s low daily score of 297 as the Hilltoppers stormed back to claim victory at the WVIAC Northern Regional. The Toppers’ 36-hole total of 601 outdistanced runner-up Ohio Valley by a dozen strokes. Charleston and Fairmont State tied for third with matching totals of 625.
WLSC also claimed the individual title as Christopher Palmer finished at two-over par 144 following Monday’s round of 74. Matt Hicks (WLSC) and Korey Pettit (UC) tied for second at 146. Graham Reger of West Virginia Wesleyan placed fourth with a 149, while Fairmont State’s Will Gautreau rounded out the top five at 150.
West Virginia Wesleyan and Concord each carded 638 to finish knotted for fifth in the team race.
The Northern Regional is the final of the WVIAC’s five mandated league events. Many WVIAC squads will compete in the upcoming April 15-16 Glenville State Spring Invitational and the April 21-22 WVIAC Invitational at Cacapon State Park Golf Course. The NCAA Division II East/Northeast Superregional is slated for May 5-7 at the Back Creek Course at St Anne’s located in Middletown, Delaware.
