Lady Pioneers Season comes to an End

Miranda ReedThe Glenville State Lady Pioneers basketball season comes to an end as they fall in the first round of the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament to Johnson C. Smith 69-74.

GSC got down early in the first couple of minutes as Johnson C. Smith took a 5-0 lead but the Lady Pioneers battled back to take a 21-18 lead at the 10:48 mark as Danielle Woodmore made a lay up.
Then Johnson C. Smith came right back as they tied it at 25 a piece and then went on a 21-10 run to end the first half as they lead at the half 46-36.
GSC battled back in the second half from a 10 point defect to regain the lead at the 4:11 mark as LaToya Hambrick made a lay but the Lady Pioneers could not hold on as Johnson C. Smith claimed a 74-69 victory.
The Lady Pioneers had four players score in double figures as Beth Deren led the way with 12 points. Senior Kim Stephens scored 11 points while Tenisha Wilson and Mishae Miles both scored 10 points. Miles also grabbed 11 rebounds as she record a double double.
Miranda Reed led the Lady Pioneers in assists as she dished out 7.
Johnson C. Smith was led by LaQwesha Gamble and Racquel Davis as they both scored 17 points. Gamble and Davis both recorded double doubles as Gamble grabbed 16 rebounds while Davis grabbed 12 rebounds.
Both teams were plagued with turnovers as the Lady Pioneers turned it over 24 times while Johnson C. Smith turned it over 25 times.
The Lady Pioneers finished the season with a 23-9 (17-5) overall record. We would like to congratulate the Lady Pioneers for a great season as well as the seniors for having an outstanding career.
