It was a close game until early in the second half when the Yellow Jackets went on an 8 point run at the 15:51 mark which the Lady Pioneers could not overcome the run.
West Virginia State shot 46 percent from the floor and 35 percent from behind the arc while the Lady Pioneers only shot 30 percent from the floor and 22 percent from behind the arc.
Both teams were careless with the ball as the Lady Pioneers committed 17 turnovers and the Yellow Jackets turned it over 21 times for a total of 38 turnovers in the game.
Mishae Miles led the Lady Pioneers with a double double scoring 20 points and grabbed a game high 10 rebounds. The only other Lady Pioneer to score in double figures was Tenisha Wilson with 16 points. Danielle Woodmore handed out a game high 7 assists while Miranda Reed had a game high 7 steals, and Kristen Golden recorded 4 blocks.
West Virginia State was led by Chelsey Davis as she recorded a game high 24 points and 10 rebounds for a double double while Kashauna Cook chipped in with 14 points.
Coming into the night the Lady Pioneers were sitting atop the WVIAC in first place, but with the loss they fell into third place. The Lady Pioneers are 18-8 (16-5) on the season they will return to action on Saturday, February 26th in their final regular season game as they battle Ohio Valley on Senior Day.
