The GSC Pioneers raced out to a 32-point halftime advantage on their way to cruising past Salem International, 78-51. Tryvan Leech dropped 20 points on six of nine shooting in just 23 minutes of action as Glenville continued with its best start in over a decade, improving to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the WVIAC.
After jumping out to an 8-0 lead just three minutes in, the two teams would play even over the next 4 minutes and after a Ricky Dunham jumper, it would be 16-8 with 13:52 to go.
The Pioneers would then outscore Salem 23-4 over the next nine minutes and put the ball game on ice, going into the locker room up an astounding 48-16 at the break.
The second half would see the lead swell to as many as 42 before Coach Osborne pulled the starters. The Pioneers would eventually settle for a 78-51 victory.
Chase Groves would add 14 points and Anthony Kimble would score 13 on six of seven shooting for Pioneers.
Glenville shot a remarkable 60% in the opening frame, while holding Salem to just four of 25 (16%) shooting. The Pioneers finished the game with a 50-30 rebounding edge, including 15 offensive rebounds.
The Tigers were led by Dunham’s 13 points followed by 11 from Chris Carey and 10 from Emile Payne.
GSC returns to action December 30 when they play host to Waynesburg College. Tip off is at 3pm.
