GSC Opens with 22-7 Run    Final Minute/OT Part 1           Overtime  Part 2            Coach Osborne’s Recap

(ATHENS, WV) — The Glenville State Pioneers got key contributions from two veterans as they went on the road to down Concord University in overtime, 81-80.  Seniors Anthony Kimble and Chase Groves, who have struggle a bit out the gate this season, rebounded in a big way scoring 27 and 23 points respectively.

Kimble was unstoppable at times as he knocked down 10 of 15 fields, and hauled in 8 rebounds.  Groves connected on 8 of 17 shots, including 4 of 5 free throws.  Leading scorers Tryvan Leech and Jamal Holden both struggled to find their shot, as they each finished with 13 points.  Holden grabbed 9 rebounds and Leech nabbed six.

The Mountains Lions were paced by 25 points from Cordale Boyd, 16 points off the bench for Cory Williard and 15 from Rafee Smith.

The Pioneers (3-2, 1-1) raced out to a 22-7 margin over the opening 6:17 of the contest.  CU would not go away however as they scratched and clawed their way back to even, 35 all, at the break.

GSC opened the 2nd half with a 7-0 spurt to grab the lead.

CU (2-3, 0-2) would come right back with an 8-0 run of their own, capped off by a Thomas Brown 3 pointer to make it 43-42 with 13:43 remaining.

The two teams would trade the lead back and forth five times during the rest of the half.

Glenville looked like they had iced it, with two Groves free throws.  Concord however tied it up with a last second layup by Smith.

The overtime was plagued by poor shooting from both teams.  Glenville didn’t hit a field goal on five attempts and Concord was 1 of 7.  GSC hit five free throws to pull out the win.

Both teams shot the exact same 44.8% from the field.  The Pioneers would connect on 5 of 10 3pt attempts in the 1st half, but would hit just 3 of 18 the rest of the way.

The Pioneers return to action next weekend as they play host to the Glenville Gassaway Physical Therapy Specialist Tournament.  The first game between Fairmont and Urbana is at 6pm.  GSC host Tennessee Temple at 8 pm.
