GSC Pioneers Fall to Kentucky Wesleyan

Box Score

(OWENSBORO, KY) — The 22nd ranked Kentucky Wesleyan squad was too much for the Glenville State Pioneers, as they coasted to an 89-76 win tonight from the Sportscenter Arena.   The Panthers committed just four turnovers and had 19 offensive rebounds, to overcome a poor shooting performance.  Western Illinois transfer Lorenzo “Zo” Taylor led KWC with 23 points on 9 of 11 shooting and 11 rebounds.  The huge rebound advantage (+12) led to 23 more shots for Kentucky Wesleyan then GSC.

The Pioneers were paced by a game high 28 points from Senior Guard Tryvan Leech.  Leech connected on 9 of 15 from the floor, including 6 of 9 from behind the arc, while pulling down six rebounds.  The Springfield, Ohio native has now hit an unreal 18 of 30 from the 3pt line this season.

Junior College Transfer Jamal Holden continued his excellent star t to the season.  Holden, who has been a complete stat stuffer this season, again didn’t disappoint as he scored 25 points, hauled in 8 rebounds and had four assists.  The California native is now averaging 16.2 ppg. , 7.5 rpg, 4.2 apg and 1.2 spg.

KWC quickly opened the game with 6-0 run over the first 1:20.  The Pioneer countered with a 5-0 run to draw within one at 6-5.  This would be the closest it would get.

The Panthers would then rattle of a 15-5 run over the next seven minutes.  A Clarence Juliet layup and a Chris Williams free throw would make it 21-10 with 11:06 left.

Glenville would draw things closer a few minutes later.  A Leech three and then nine straight points from Holden would cut the lead to 25-22 with 6:46 to go in the half.

However K. Wesleyan would outscore the Pioneers 16-9 over the final six minutes to go into halftime with a 41-31 lead.

The 2nd half was much of the same, as the Panthers would slowly build the lead up to as many as 20 before settling on the final.

The Pioneers shot 49% from the field and 50% from the 3pt line, but committed 18 turnovers that lead to 16 KWC points.

Glenville State will be off for the holidays.  The Pioneers return to action, December 6th when they travel to Concord.  Tipoff is at 6 P.M.
