(Elkins, WV) – The Senators of Davis and Elkins used a 22-0 run midway through the 1st half to pull away from the visiting Pioneers of Glenville State. Jelani Jackson led six Senators in double figures with 22 points and Greg Bryant exploded for 21 points off the bench as D&E won a crucial contest in the battle for a home WVIAC tournament game.
The Pioneers were paced Tryvan Leech and Chase Groves as they each dropped 20 points. Anthony Kimble and Michael Hurd added 15 points a piece and Marcus Catney added 14 points, as GSC feel to 9-17 overall and 6-12 in conference play.
Davis and Elkins shot an amazing 62.5 percent for the game which included a 72 percent clip in the 2nd half.
Trialing by four, 11-7 with 14:02, the Senators would outscore the Pioneers 22-0 over the next 5:30 to make it 29-11. The Senators would connect on 9 of 16 3pt attempts in the half to post a 49-28 advantage at the break.
The Pioneers would get the lead down to 13 in the 2nd half on a 19-6 run, but that was as close as they would come.
The Pioneers shot 46.5 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from the 3pt line.
The Pioneers will play host to WV Wesleyan this Saturday. Tip Off is at 4:00PM.
