(Glenville, WV) – West Virginia University – TECH defeated Glenville State College 105-95 in the nightcap of the GGPTS Basketball Tournament at Lilly Gymnasium. The Tech Golden Bears (4-3) were led by 25 points from Guard Brent Butler, and Forward Sam Robertson added 24 on 10 of 13 shooting. WVU-Tech absolutely sizzled from the field shooting 54% from the field, 44% from the 3pt line and 92% from the foul line.
The Glenville State Pioneers (1-3) got 30 points from Forward Mykail Vibbert and 28 points from Guard Tryvan Leech.
The Pioneers would make a run in the 2nd half to knot the score at 68 all on a Vibbert layup with 12:02 to play. After the two teams exchanged layups, a Jody Poole three would Tech the lead for good. The lead quickly expanded to double digits, and they Pioneers’ could get no closer than three.
The Golden Bears raced out to a 51-45 lead at the break, as they 56% from the field in the first half. Robertson’s 18 first half points led the Bears.
TECH advances to the finals to take on Fairmont State, a 93-83 winner over Southern Virginia. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.
