(GREENSBURG, PA) — The Lady Pioneers squandered a 10 point 1st half lead and were never able to recover, as they fell to the Lady Griffins of Seton HIll tonight, 67-49, in the 1st round of the WVIAC Women’s Tournament. SHU used a 30-10 run over the final 13 minutes of the opening frame to seize a 10 point halftime advantage and cruise to the quarterfinals and the Charleston Civic Center. The loss finishes the 2008-09 campaign for GSC with a record of 9-19 and marks the first time since 1996 they have failed to make it out of the 1st round of the WVIAC tournament.
The Lady Griff’s were paced by Katie Lintner’s 18 points and 15 rebounds. Orit Farchi added 13 and Erika Haitz chipped in 10.
Glenville State got 20 points from Donita Adams and 10 points and six rebounds from Kristen Golden. The Lady Pioneers finished the season with a 9-19 record.
GSC raced out to a 16-6 advantage capped off by an Adams’ triple with 13:51 remaining. SHU would then run off 9 straight to cut the lead to one. The Pioneers would get four quick points to push the margin back to five, before getting outscored 21-6 the rest of the way.
Glenville would get the lead down to seven to open the half but that would be it, as SHU would increase the lead to as many as 20 before settling on the final.
For the game the Pioneers would shoot just 36% including just 5 of 21 from the 3pt line.
