The Lady Pioneers had no answers for the powerful UC attack as they fell tonight 92-71 in WVIAC WBB action at Lilly Gymnasium. The Pioneers quickly fell behind by double digits and were never able to recover.
UC freshmen sensation Jihan Williams recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds as she lead five players in double figures. Ali Tobias scored 12 points, Kaitlyn Arick added 11 and both Tiana Betty and Veronica Carman each chipped in 10 points.
The Lady Pioneers were led by 22 points by Mallory Menendez and 13 points from Donita Adams as Glenville falls to 8-13 overall and 6-9 in the WVIAC.
UC used a 9-0 run to open the game and would really never be threatened. GSC would counter with a quick 6-0 to cut the game to 9-6. Charleston would then outscore the Pioneers 47 to 16 the rest of the way en route to grabbing a 56-22 advantage at halftime.
The second half would be much of the same as the Lady Pioneers were unable to cut the deficit to anything lower than 21 points.
The Lady Pioneers shot 43.3% from the field but had no answers on the boards as the Lady Golden Eagles held a monster 46-25 rebounding advantage.
The Lady Pioneers will look to recover as they travel to Bluefield State on Saturday. Tip Off is 5:30 p.m.
