Poor 2nd Half Does In Lady Pioneers

The Lady Pioneers once again were done in by a poor 2nd half performance as they fell to Wheeling Jesuit 71-56 tonight from Lilly Gymnasium. The Lady Cardinals used two big 2nd half runs to blow open a one point halftime game. Megan Stuvek led all scorers with a game high 19 points as she connected on 8 of 10 field goals, while pulling in eight rebounds.
Glenville State was paced by Kristen Golden’s 17 points off the bench. Donita Adams chipped in 13 points and 7 boards as GSC falls to 5-8 Overall and 3-4 in the WVIAC.
The Cardinals got 15 points and six rebounds from Kim Mueller and nine points, nine assists and five rebounds from point guard Bridget Buskirk.
The back and forth 1st half saw 11 lead changes as Wheeling Jesuit would grab a 35-34 advantage at the break on a Cassy Sanderson jumper with 13 seconds to go.
After a Mallory Menendez triple would knot the game at 37-37 just 30 seconds in to the 2nd half, WJU would engineer a 16-4 run over the next 7+ minutes to make it 53-41 with 12:36 to go.
GSC would claw back to within six, 55-49, on a Golden layup with 9:35 left. This would be the closest Glenville would get.
Wheeling would close the game by outscoring the Lady Pioneers 18-9.
For the game Glenville would shoot just 39.7% from the floor, while Jesuit connected on 26 of 53 attempts (49.1%).
The Lady Pioneers return to action this Saturday as they play host to West Liberty. Tip Off is 5:30 pm.
