Lady Pioneers Run Past Salem Int’l

The Lady Pioneers scored early and often as they ran past the overmatched Lady Tiger’s of Salem International, 86-39 in WVIAC WBB action. Mallory Menendez’s 23 points led Glenville in scoring for the 6th time this season.
Kim Stephens added 16 points, Beth Deren chipped in with 13 off the bench, and Christine DiSabato added 12 points as GSC snapped a two game skid.
Jessica Lockett led the SIU Tigers with 15 points and 14 rebounds, but she had nine of her teams 29 turnovers.
The Pioneers held a 24-0 points in the paint advantage and a 19 to 1 advantage on points off turnovers.
SIU stayed in striking range early. A Tori Lease 3pt FG would cut the GSC lead to 22-13 with 8:58 to go. Glenville would respond by closing the half on a 22 to 6 run and putting the game out of reach.
The Lady Pioneers swarming defensive grabbed 13 steals and held Salem to just 29.2% shooting from the field.  
Glenville State will be off for the next three weeks for the holidays. They will return to action on January 10, 2009 as they play host to the Lady Battlers of Alderson-Broaddus. Tip Off is at 5:30 pm.
