Lady Pioneers Fall to WVWC, 68-64

The Lady Pioneers dropped a close one today to the Lady Bobcats of WV Wesleyan, 68-64, this afternoon in the regular season final at Lilly Gymnasium. Lucia Darling led the Bobcats with 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting from behind the 3pt line. Sarah Van Horn added 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals while not committing a turnover in 38 minutes of action. 

Glenville State was paced by Donita Adams’ game high 21 points as the Lady Pioneers fall to 16-11 overall and 14-6 in WVIAC play.
Glenville State struggled out of the gate as sloppy ball handling led to seven turnovers in the opening seven minutes, and helped contribute to a 15-8 WVWC lead with 12:54 to go in the 1st half. 
GSC would then put together a 9-2 run on triples from Adams and Christine DiSabato, and a three point play from Kim Stephens to even it up at 17 all, with 10:59 to go. 
WV Wesleyan would then counter with a 16-5 run over the next six minutes to grab a 33-22 advantage with 4:54 remaining. 
Glenville State would then turn up the defense and hold the Bobcats scoreless the rest of the half, while score seven unanswered to go into the break trailing 36-32.
The 2nd half was a back and forth affair has neither team could pull away from the other as there were five ties and 12 lead changes in the half. 
The Lady Bobcats would hold the biggest lead of the half at just six points.
The Lady Pioneers would go up on top by one, 64-63 with 1:09 remaining on an Adams’ three from the left corner. GSC would hold WVWC to a quick one and out, and had a chance to put the game away, but they came up short giving the Bobcats the ball with 28 seconds to go. 
WVWC’s Brandi Wynn would put the Bobcats up for good 66-64 on a three pointer with 21 seconds to go in the half.
The Pioneers would have a chance to answer but would miss the front end of a one and one with 14 seconds to go. GSC would grab the rebound off the 2nd miss but a last second shot would come up short. Van Horn would hit a pair of free throws with .3 seconds remaining to give you the final score.
For the game the Pioneers would shoot 46.4 percent from the game and hold a 37-24 rebounding margin, however they would turn the ball over 21 times.
Glenville State, the #7seed, will play host to Salem International this Monday in the 1st round of the WVIAC tournament. SIU is just one of four teams to win at Lilly Gymnasium in the last 100+ contests. Tip Off is at 7:30 PM.
