The Glenville State Lady Pioneers defeated the Lady Blues from Bluefield State College, 84-60, in WVIAC WBB action tonight at Lilly Gymnasium. Senior Karina Kendrick paced four Glenville Starters in double figures, with 27 points and 10 rebounds as she recorded her 14th double – double of the season. Donita Adams filled the box score as she chipped in 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Mallory Menendez added 18 points and Kristen Golden scored 14 and grabbed eight rebounds.
Lady Pioneers Down Bluefield State, 84-60
The Lady Blues were led by Eva Grose’s 18 point on 8 of 10 shooting. Sasha Simmons added 14 points for BSC as they dropped to 5-15 Overall and 3-10 WVIAC play.
The Lady Pioneers used a quick 9 -0 run, over four minutes to grab a 15-8 lead with 13:57 to play and they would never be threatened again. GSC would cost to a 42-31 halftime advantage behind a 54.3 percent shooting half. Adams led the half with 14 points, followed by Kendrick with 11 and Golden with 10.
Glenville State would open the 2nd half on a tear as they ran off a 29-8 advantage over the opening seven minutes of the period, to grab a 61-39 lead with 13:56 to go in the game. The lead would stretch to as many as 25 before settling on the final margin of 24.
The Lady Pioneers dominated on the boards and in the paint as they held a plus 18 rebounding margin and outscored the Lady Blues 58 to 12 on points in the paint.
For the game Glenville State shot 52.1 percent from the floor, 40 percent from the three point line and 80 percent from the foul line.
The Lady Pioneers return to action this Saturday as they play host to Ohio Valley. Tip – Off is at 5:30 p.m.
