The Lady Pioneers defeated WV State for the third time in as many tries this season, 68-66 in Institute. Senior Karina Kendrick’s 8th Double – Double (16pts, 15rebs) led four Pioneers’ in double figures as GSC overcame 25 turnovers to improved to 5-8 and 3-3 in WVIAC play. Mallory Menendez added 14 points, Donita Adams scored 12, and Christine DiSabato chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.
WV State was led by a game high 25 points from Brittany Mingo, as the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-10 and 2-5 in WVIAC play.
The game opened with DiSabato draining two quick 3′s to give the Lady Pioneers a 6-0 lead just one minute into the contest. However WVSU would then score 22 of the next 26 as they rambled off a 22-4 run over the next 9 minutes.
Trailing 25-14, Glenville would engineer a 14-3 run behind 6pts from Kendrick and two big 3 pointers from Menendez and Adams, before settling on a 37-34 halftime deficit.
The Pioneers trailed to open the 2nd half, until a pair of Kendrick free throws gave them the lead for good 43-42 with 14:55 to go. GSC would stretch the lead to as many as 10 before the Yellow Jackets’ late run would give you the final
Glenville State out rebounded WV State 44-40 to help over come an excellent shooting performance as the Jackets’ shot 44% from the field, compared to just 38% for the Pioneers. GSC did shoot and outstandin 9 of 16 from behind the 3pt line.
The Lady Pioneers will look to make it two in a row as they host Seton Hill this Saturday. Tip Off is 5:30 pm.
